ROWAN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

A tractor-trailer overturned on Interstate 85 in Rowan County Friday morning, blocking all lanes of the interstate for some time.

The wreck happened on I-85 south near Exit 63, which caused significant backups in the area. The roadway had reopened around 4 p.m.

NCDOT advised motorists to take Exit 68 for US-29 south and continue for ten miles before turning right onto the ramp for I-85 south.

The tractor-trailer was reportedly carrying a concrete slab, which caused major damage to a guardrail. There was also a fuel spill.

There's no word on injuries or what caused the tractor-trailer to overturn.

Troopers said the road near Exit 64 was shut down for several hours Friday. By 3:30 p.m., traffic was moving slowly but there were still very heavy delays.

Rowan EMS said they were called to assist some people who were stuck in traffic for various things, including several diabetic situations. A temporary medical triage area was set up to help with the medical calls.
