A man has been arrested by police in Charlotte and has been charged in connection with two separate sexual assaults in Charlotte's Myers Park and SouthEnd neighborhoods.

According to police, 21-year-old Larry Jarome Bailey Jr. was charged Friday morning in connection to both cases.

The first reported assault involved a 17-year-old and happened around 8:30 am Wednesday along the 2600-block of Briarcliff Place.

The teenager told police the man, later identified as Bailey, had driven past her in a vehicle several times and then approached her on foot. He told her that he had a gun and then sexually assaulted her by fondling her.

A witness who asked to remain anonymous told WBTV she watched a man forcibly grab a teenage girl who was walking down the sidewalk. The witness called 911 and the man took off in his vehicle.

Friday morning, police say they were called to another sexual assault near the intersection of East Boulevard and Cleveland Avenue, in Charlotte's SouthEnd area.

A 28-year-old woman says she was jogging when a man grabbed her and started to fondle her. Police say the woman screamed and decided to fight off the attacker.  Police say Bailey left in a silver Toyota Camry vehicle, which matched the description of the car in the Myers Park sexual assault case.

Officers searched the area and found a matching vehicle, pulled over Bailey and took him into custody. He was interviewed by detectives and reportedly confessed to both sexual assaults.

Police credit good citizen participation and police work for arresting Bailey.  Officers say victims alerted police right away about the Myers Park assault and neighbors provided a photo of the car Bailey was driving at the time of the alleged incident.  Police say that photo helped them identify Bailey sooner rather than later.

"The community makes the difference if a crime gets solved or not." Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Lt. Melanie Peacock said.

Police immediately put out warrants for Bailey's arrest following the Myers Park incident.

"It's unfortunate that we didn't get him in hand beforehand," Peacock said. "We were actively looking for him."

Officers say they didn't find a weapon when Bailey was arrested and searched.

He has been charged with 1st-degree sex offense, kidnapping, sexual battery, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bailey has been arrested before. His previous charges include drug charges and assault on a government employee. Police are also asking if there are other victims out there to come forward.

Detectives are asking anyone with additional information concerning this case to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.  To learn more about the Crime Stoppers mobile app, please visit http://charlottecrimestoppers.com/.
