Firefighters and emergency crews responded to two separate incidents at Charlotte businesses Thursday evening.

The first fire broke out around 7 p.m. at a business on the 700 block of Lawton Road. The address is listed as Specialized Warehouse Services. Officials said the building was evacuated.

Firefighters reported heavy smoke coming from the building on arrival.

HazMat was called in due to "contents inside the building," according to the Charlotte Fire Department.

The second incident began just before 8 p.m. on the 500 block of Eastway Dr. near The Plaza. Firefighters reported seeing smoke coming from the roof of the two-story building when they got to the scene.

Eastway Drive was closed in both directions while emergency crews worked.

Officials said it took 23 firefighters 23 minutes to get the fire under control.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

The cause of both fires is under investigation.
