CORNELIUS, NC (WBTV) -

One person was injured in an apartment fire in Cornelius Thursday, according to officials.

The fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. at the Antiquity Apartments in the 1700 block of Lovers Lawn Terrace. MEDIC said one person was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, but the Cornelius Police Department tweeted that they didn't know the extent of the victim's injuries.

The Cornelius Fire Department said the person was taken for burns and smoke inhalation.

The fire department said the sprinkler system kept the fire down until crews were able to arrive. Firefighters said the fire was mostly contained to the room where the fire had originated, but crews did not say what room the fire started in.

The victim's name has not been released.

There is no word on what may have sparked the fire, but the cause is under investigation.
