Family Dollar robbed twice in five months, and it only took 20 seconds

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - For the second time in five months, the Family Dollar store on Rozzelle's Ferry road was robbed - and the crime took only 20 seconds.

On surveillance, a tall, thin man dressed in black from head to toe goes into the store late on a Sunday night. Once inside, we can see he's got a bright, red bandana across his face.

Within seconds, he's got a black revolver aimed at the night manager. He threatens to shoot her if she doesn't load up the bag he dropped over the counter.

"She was very nervous," said CMPD Detective Tori Roddey. "She was shaking but she was able to get the money out and put it in the bag he gave her."

While he holds a gun on her, others in the store hear the commotion and make a run for it.

"I'm just thankful no one was hurt, we had some families in there that ran out the back door which was good."

Outside the store, while the robbery was taking place, one customer peered through the glass doors to see a man with a gun. That customer turned around and got back into his car.

Moments later, the well-disguised stick-up man was seen running towards Hoskins Road.

"He was pretty covered up and those are the ones we pay the most money for. It's all well and good when you can see the person's face, but the one's that are covered up, we tend to pay more with Crime Stoppers because you really have to know detailed information about who the person might be."

If you have that kind of information, call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 and you won't have to leave your name to earn a sizeable reward.
