The town of Harrisburg is set for major economic development with the recent approval of a plan to build the Farmington Development near I-485 and Rocky River Road.

MPV Properties will build the 180-acre development that will be located partly in Mecklenburg County and partly in Cabarrus County.

Charlotte City Council approved its portion of the development in June.

Harrisburg will see the addition of 240 residential units.

According to MPV Properties, Farmington will include 300 townhouses, 275 apartments, 120 age-restricted homes for active seniors, 120-room hotel, a 14-screen movie theater, 200,000 square feet of shops and restaurants and 160,000 square feet of offices and medical space.

Construction is expected to begin in 2018 with the first completed by 2019.
