CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A severe thunderstorm rolled through Charlotte and Mecklenburg Co, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and hail to many people. There were several reports of damage caused by the storm.

Two outflow boundaries from old storms crashed together right over the city to create the new storm. We’ve had reports of nickel to quarter sized hail on top of the heavy rain.

Firefighters said two motorists had to rescued from their vehicle near uptown Charlotte because of the heavy rain.

According to police, a tree fell on a home on the 2500 block of Yadkin Avenue just northeast of uptown. Officers said it appeared the home was a total loss, but luckily no one was home. A neighbor told WBTV that the homeowners live in California, but plan to come check out the damage Wednesday.

Trees were also blocking traffic on the 500 block of Archdale Drive and near the intersection of Attaberry Drive and Indiana Avenue.

Another incident where a traffic light fell on I-277 near Bank of America Stadium created a problem for drivers.
