Victim dies at hospital after shooting in Statesville

STATESVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

One person who was taken to the hospital after being shot in Iredell County Monday died at the hospital.

The shooting happened just before 5:30 p.m. on the 300 block of Winona Street in Statesville. Police said they believe the victim, identified as 19-year-old Shaun Antwan Holmes, was shot outside in the street but did not give further details.

Officials say a black SUV was seen leaving the area and has not been located.

Holmes, who was taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital, was pronounced deceased just before 7 p.m. 

There is no word on what may have led to the shooting. 

Family members were gathered at Holmes residence on Tuesday.  They said that Holmes had recently been accepted to  begin classes at Mitchell Community College in Statesville.

Holmes was known locally as a rapper and had posted several of his videos to social media sites.
