MORGANTON, NC (WBTV) -

A Burke County man was arrested after police say deputies say he admitted to lighting a house and vehicle fire using a shotgun early Monday morning.

The incident happened at a mobile home on Idlewild Drive off of Henderson Mill Road in Morganton. When officials arrived at the scene, they say 48-year-old David Jay Macinnes was standing on the porch of a nearby home with a rifle and a handgun.

After speaking with Maccines for about 20 minutes, officials took him into custody. Multiple firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition were also taken as evidence.

Deputies say Maccines confessed to "piling trash inside the residence and shooting it multiple times with a shotgun to ignite a fire."

The mobile home and the vehicle are considered a total loss.

Maccines was charged with second-degree arson, but officials say additional charges are possible.
