Moped driver involved in June north Charlotte hit-and-run dies

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A person seriously injured in a hit-and-run last month died over the weekend.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say on June 23, 67-year-old William James Johnson, Jr. was driving a black moped when he was struck by what witnesses described as a silver Mitsubishi Mirage.

It happened on Statesville Avenue at Norris Avenue. Johnson went to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries. Johnson died from his injuries Saturday, police say. 

The suspect vehicle was located nearby on Montreat Street at Norris Avenue. The driver had fled the scene and has still not been located.
