DENVER, NC (WBTV) -

A driver blew through a crash scene in Denver Sunday, nearly hitting firefighters and officers working the scene, the Denver Fire Department says.

It happened on Business 16.

The Charlotte Fire Department cited the following from NCGS 20-157:

"A person who violates this section and causes serious injury or death to a law enforcement officer, a firefighter, an emergency vehicle operator, an Incident Management Assistance Patrol member, a public service vehicle operator, or any other emergency response person in the immediate area of the authorized emergency vehicle or public service vehicle is guilty of a Class I felony."

The department posted about the incident Monday, using hashtags like: #moveover and #slowdown.

Firefighters say Highway Patrol handled the driver "accordingly."
