Driver identified in deadly northwest Charlotte motorcycle wreck

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

One person was killed in a crash involving a motorcycle in northwest Charlotte Sunday evening. 

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the fatal wreck occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Mount Holly Road at Rhyne Road, which turns into Sonoma Valley Drive.

Officers say Medic arrived and pronounced the driver of the motorcycle, identified as 38-year-old Steven Lamont McKinney, dead on scene. 

Police say a Toyota Venza pulled out into the intersection and was struck by the motorcycle. 

"Alcohol is not a contributing factor for the driver of the Toyota," police say. "It is unknown if speed is a contributing factor at this time."

The road was shut down for a time following the wreck.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 704-432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
