ROWAN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

A man has been charged in a police pursuit that began in Davidson County and ended with a crash on I-85 in Rowan County Thursday.

Deputies were called to a domestic disturbance Monday on Quail Hill Drive and were told Kent Joseph Long had a gun inside the home. Long fled the home before deputies arrived, and warrants were obtained for Long for felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and parole violation with full extradition authorized.

Deputies say on Thursday, when trying to stop a car Long was driving, Long fled from Davidson County deputies, leading them on a chase into Rowan County.

The chase ended around 2:30 p.m. on southbound I-85 near mile marker 68 when Long collided with two other vehicles. All lanes of southbound I-85 were slowed to a near crawl after the crash.

Long was taken to Lexington Memorial Hospital with minor injuries and released. He appeared before the magistrate and was served with charges of possession of a firearm by felon, flee to elude arrest with motor vehicle, unsafe lane change, speeding, fail to heed light and siren, reckless driving to endanger, and resisting public officer.

Additional charges are pending with the Rowan County Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Long was given a $40,000 bond for Davidson County charges and no bond for the parole violation.

Long is expected to appear in court Aug. 7.
