CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A child was injured and two families were displaced after an apartment fire in east Charlotte Wednesday.

The fire broke out around 8:30 p.m. at an apartment complex on the 2600 block of Lanecrest Drive. Officials said a child was taken to the hospital, but did not say how the child was injured.

The child's name and condition have not been released.

Firefighters said it took only 12 minutes to get the blaze knocked down. In that time, however, two units were affected and the families that live there were displaced.

The Charlotte Fire Department said the fire was caused by food that was cooking and left unattended on the stove. Firefighters said the damage is estimated to be around $7,500.
