SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

A mother and her son were both arrested late Tuesday night after the son attacked his mother's boyfriend with what police say was a Samurai sword.

It happened in the 1000 block of Lincolnton Road.

Police say Dennis Anthony Burgess, 29, was arguing with his mother's boyfriend.  Burgess went towards the man with a Samurai sword, striking the man several times.

Police said that Burgess raised the sword over his head, "like a baseball bat," and told the boyfriend that he was going to cut his head off.

The report says that despite being hit "multiple" times, the man was not hurt.

Theresa Ann Hartsell, 48, grabbed the sword from her son and hit him several times, cutting her finger.

Hartsell and Burgess were both charged with assault with a deadly weapon.  Both were given a $500 bond.
