MONROE, NC (WBTV) -

Union County bail bondsman Tim Mathis was convicted on charges related to falsifying bail bonds last week.

The North Carolina Department of Insurance, the state agency that regulates bail bondsmen, brought the charges against Mathis in 2015.

Court records show Mathis was convicted on all three crimes of which he was accused: falsifying of monthly bail bond, accessing government computers and obtaining property by false pretenses.

Mathis was sentenced to between 13 and 24 months in prison.

A spokesman for the North Carolina prison system said Mathis arrived at the Craven Correctional Institution near New Bern on Monday.

A spokesman for the North Carolina Department of Insurance did not return a call or email seeking comment on Mathis’ conviction.
