CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Detectives with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Cold Case Homicide Unit have arrested a man in connection to a robbery and homicide that happened in 2005.

Jamell Lashon Alexander, 40, is charged with murder, two counts of armed robbery, and possession of firearm by a convicted felon in the shooting death of Narayan Reddy Yalla.

The crime happened on November 17, 2005, on the 100 block of Hilary Circle. When officers got to the scene, they found Yalla, who was 51 years old, with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center where he later died.

The case has remained unsolved until February of this year, when detectives began again interviewing several key witnesses and working with the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office.

Investigators have not said what additional evidence led to naming Alexander as the suspect. Alexander, who was already in custody of the North Carolina Department of Corrections, was brought back to Mecklenburg County, served with the arrest warrants, and is currently in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

This is the 46th cold case, involving 54 victims, that has been cleared by CMPD's Cold Case Homicide Unit.
