Fallen tree shuts down Huntersville road, knocks down power line on car

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

No one was injured when a power line fell on a vehicle with a seven people inside in Huntersville Saturday evening. 

According to the Long Creek Fire Department, a tree fell down on Kerns Road just after 7:30 p.m. and knocked down a live power line. The fire department said the power line fell on a vehicle with people inside. 

A spokesperson with the fire department said two adults and five children were inside the car during the incident. Firefighters said no one was injured. 

Duke Energy was able to deactivate the line and then crews were able to successfully remove the adults and children from the car, firefighters said. 

Kerns Road is expected to be shut down for an "extended time" while crews clean up the area, firefighters said. Crews did not say what time the road is expected to reopen.
