LINCOLN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

A man was arrested after a deputy was hurt during a chase in Lincoln County Friday.

Deputies say they attempted to stop a four-wheeler on South Industrial Park Road around 12:25 a.m. but the driver sped off, reaching a speed of 55-miles-per-hour.

The ATV turned onto Atlantic Lane and crashed into a utility pole. The rider, later identified as 32-year-old David Webb, jumped off the ATV and ran into the woods. Webb threw his helmet, which hit and broke the hand of a deputy chasing him, deputies say.

Webb was arrested after slipping and falling. He was charged with felony speeding to elude arrest, driving while license revoked, resist, delay and obstruct a public officer, and assault on a government official.

He was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $37,000 secured bond.
