Man accused in University City hookah lounge stabbing arrested at Charlotte airport

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A man accused of stabbing five people at a Hookah Lounge in the University City area in March has been charged. 

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police announced Friday that they arrested 26-year-old Aldon George Lawrence Thursday after he boarded a flight at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.

Detectives say they received a tip through Crime Stoppers, identifying Lawrence as the suspect. 

Officers say a fight inside hookah bar Red@28th on Pinnacle Drive spilled out into the parking lot on March 19. Five people were then stabbed around 2:09 a.m.

Two of those victims were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to CMPD. Officers said shots were fired in the parking lot during the fight, but no one was hit.

Police have not said what led to the fight. 

This was the second incident in the parking lot of the hookah lounge that month. On March 3, a victim was shot outside the bar after a confrontation, according to police.

Lawrence was charged with attempted murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
