Child rushed to hospital after being struck by vehicle in SW Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A 6-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle in southwest Charlotte Thursday evening.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Willetta Drive and Nations Ford Road. Medic said the child was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with very serious injuries.

Police at the scene said it appeared the boy ran into the street and into the path of an oncoming vehicle. 

The driver of the vehicle was charged with driving with a suspended license but is facing no charges connected to the crash.

The child's condition has not been released, but a woman at the scene who claimed to be the young boy's grandmother said he is expected to be OK.
