Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for Cabarrus, Iredell, Meck, and Rowan Counties

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for several counties in the WBTV viewing area.

The warnings include Cabarrus County, Southeastern Iredell County, Northwestern Mecklenburg County, and Southwestern Rowan County until 6:30 p.m.

The warning was issued when a severe thunderstorm was located near Huntersville, moving east at 25 mph, just before 5:30 p.m., according to the NWS.

Officials say the storms could produce 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. 

"Scattered trees and power lines will be blown down in the warned area," the NWS said. "Seek shelter inside an interior room."
