CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A person was taken to the hospital and another is being sought after a shooting in east Charlotte Wednesday afternoon.

Medic responded to the shooting around 3:32 a.m. in the 6900 block of Albemarle Road, near the intersection with E. W.T. Harris Boulevard. Officers said the victim and suspect both stopped at a red light when the suspect got out of his vehicle and shot into the victim's vehicle multiple times.

Police said the shooting victim drove away from the scene and crashed into an unoccupied vehicle at the Meineke at the Albemarle Rd location. The victim, an adult male, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries.

A witness who was at the gas station across the street described the incident.

“I heard a bunch of yelling, like a bunch of commotion and then pow, pow, pow, pow, pow. A bunch of shots. So we were looking like ‘oh my God.’ Everybody was ducking down, undercover like. People were grabbing babies,” said the witness who did not want to be named.

Just before 8 p.m., police released surveillance photos of the shooter. He is described as a black male between 20 and 25 years old. He is about 5'10" tall and has a skinny build.

The shooter was in an older-model four-door gray sedan.

Albemarle Rd was closed in both directions between W.T. Harris Blvd and Winterhaven Dr while police investigated.

The road was reopened several hours later.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to immediately call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
