Man charged for having unloaded shotgun on Catawba College campus

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

A Huntersville man was charged after a shotgun was seen in his car on the campus of Catawba College on Thursday.

According to the Rowan Sheriff's Office report, public safety officers saw a shotgun "in plain view" in the back of a black Buick Reatta on campus between the Hedrick Administration building and the Salisbury-Rowan building.

The gun was a Mossberg 12 ga. shotgun, and was not loaded, according to the report.

The gun belonged to Aaron Stephen Douglas, 18, who was on campus visiting a friend.

A records check revealed that the shotgun was purchased legally in Charlotte.

Douglas was charged with possession of a firearm on educational property.  He was jailed and later released on $5000 bond.
