CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Three students from South Charlotte Middle School were accused of having BB guns on school property Wednesday.

According to South Charlotte Middle School (SCMS), two students reported that another student had brought a BB gun onto a school bus Wednesday afternoon. Pictures of the BB gun were taken and posted on social media, SCMS says.

Two of the students involved borrowed the guns prior to school and returned the guns to the original owner while on the bus, SCMS says.

SCMS says police visited the homes of the three students Wednesday night and the students met with a school resource officer Thursday morning.

School officials say two spring loaded 6mm BB guns were confiscated from the student by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Wednesday night.

"We are grateful to the students that reported this incident, transportation for further investigation and CMS and CMPD for acting quickly last evening to identify and confiscate," SCMS said Thursday.

SCMS says the BB guns were not loaded while on the bus. No one was hurt in this incident.

"Please talk to your child about this situation and remind them that ANY type of weapon is not allowed on school property.  Please check their bookbags before they go to school to ensure they do not have any prohibited items," SCMS said.

No other information has been released.
