CHARLOTTE 49ERS: Niners Spring Football Game Saturday at 6PM

Charlotte 49ers To Host Spring Game, Saturday

The Charlotte 49ers football program will host its annual Green-White Spring Game, Saturday at 6 pm at Jerry Richardson Stadium.  The 49ers, coached by Brad Lambert, are preparing for their fifth season of football and third at the FBS level as a member of Conference USA.

General admission tickets for the Spring Game are $10 and are available at charlotte49ers.com or by calling 704/687-4949.  UNC Charlotte students receive free tickets.  2016 season ticket holders already have 2017 Spring Game Tickets as part of their season ticket package.   2017 Season Ticket packages, starting at $100, are also currently available at charlotte49ers.com or by calling the athletic ticket office at 704/687-4949.

The 49ers Green-White game will pit the offense (white) vs. the defense (green) with a modified scoring system.  In addition to scoring plays, points will be awarded to the offense for first downs (2), explosive passes of over 20 yards (2) and explosive runs of over 10 yards (2).  The defense will be awarded points for forcing a turnover (3), recording a sack (2) or tackle for loss (2), forcing a three-and-out (2) and making a stop in the red zone (3). The spring game is scheduled to span three periods with the coaching staff setting the ball to offer a variety of game scenarios.

After the game, fans will be allowed on field to take part in field goal kicking; blocking tackling dummies and getting autographs from the 49ers players and coaches.

In 2016, the 49ers doubled their win total from their inaugural FBS season and picked up their first three Conference USA victories.  In 2017, Lambert will welcome back 12 starters (6 on offense; 6 on defense), led by rising red-shirt junior QB Hasaan Klugh (Concord, N.C./Central Cabarrus), rising senior LB Karrington King (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic), who is on pace to break the 49ers all-time tackles record, and 2016 C-USA all-Freshmen Team selections Tyriq Harris (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley), a rising red-shirt sophomore LB, and sophomore DB Ben DeLuca (Orlando, Fla./Bishop Moore), who set the 49ers record for tackles by a true freshman and was named a Freshman all-America by Pro Football Focus.

Charlotte opens the 2017 season at Eastern Michigan, Fri., Sept. 1.  The 49ers home opener will be Sat., Sept. 16 vs. North Carolina A&T.  The C-USA opener will be at FIU, Sept. 30 while Charlotte welcomes Marshall, Sat., Oct. 7 for the first C-USA home game of the season.  The annual Homecoming Game will be Sat., Oct. 21 vs. UAB.
