Jason Bourgeois Records His 350th Career Knights Hit in Game One Loss

(NORFOLK, VA) -- Tyler Danish tossed seven solid innings, Jason Bourgeois racked up his 350th career Knights hit, but Charlotte dropped the opening game of their three-game series to the Norfolk Tides by a score of 3-1 on Friday night from Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA. The loss was the club’s fifth consecutive after beginning the season 4-0.

Danish (1-1, 2.25) gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits over seven innings and was saddled with the loss. The 22-year-old hurler walked just one batter and fanned three. He allowed a solo home run in the second inning to Norfolk’s Robert Andino. Reliever Brad Goldberg came on to pitch the eighth inning and held the Tides scoreless in their final inning.

Offensively, the Knights managed just six hits on the night. Bourgeois, who is in his fourth season with the Knights, recorded his 350th career Knights hit in the seventh inning of Friday’s contest. The 35-year-old, who was named to the All Knights Stadium Team in 2013, ranks third all-time in franchise history in hits. Bourgeois is only behind Jordan Danks (449) and Joe Borchard (439) on the list.

Norfolk LHP Jayson Aquino (1-1, 4.00) earned the win after allowing just one unearned run on five hits over six innings. Aquino struck out eight batters and did not allow a walk. He was helped out by his offense, which swatted nine hits on the night. DH Johnny Giavotella led the way with a three-hit game. Reliever Logan Verrett pitched a perfect ninth inning to notch his first save of the season.

The two teams will continue their three-game series on Saturday from Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA with a 7:05 p.m. game. RHP Mike Pelfrey (0-1, 10.13) will make his second start of the season for the Knights. Pre-game radio coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Charlotte (730 AM) and The “Voice of the Charlotte Knights” Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action.
