White Sox Legends Baines, Dotson to Open 30th Knights’ Season in Charlotte
Two Millionth Fan in BB&T Ballpark’s Short History Expected to Attend Friday Night

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- In just two days, the 2017 Charlotte Knights will begin their much-anticipated 30th season in franchise history. Starting with Opening Knight on Thursday, April 6th, the fourth season at BB&T Ballpark gets underway with a fun-filled, four-game homestand against the Norfolk Tides (Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles). Appearances by Chicago White Sox legends Harold Baines and Richard Dotson, along with Thirsty Thursday ™ (presented by Ink N Ivy), Friday Night Fireworks (presented by BB&T and News Talk 1110 WBT), a Two Millionth Fan Celebration, and Homer The Dragon’s Birthday Party highlight the team’s remarkable Opening Weekend celebration.

Baines, a six-time American League All-Star, will join 1984 American League All-Star Richard Dotson on the field before the game for a special ceremonial first pitch. Baines, who had his #3 jersey retired by the White Sox in 1989, will catch the ceremonial first pitch thrown by Dotson, who previously served as Charlotte’s pitching coach for nine seasons (2008-2016). Dotson is currently Chicago’s Minor League Pitching Coordinator, while Baines serves as a Team Ambassador for the Sox. Baines and Dotson were teammates on the 1983 American League West Division winning White Sox team. Both players will be available for a meet and greet on the concourse from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The first 7,500 fans through the gates on Opening Knight will receive a 2017 Knights Magnet Schedule presented by Piedmont Natural Gas and NC811. Thursday’s opener will also feature the first Thirsty Thursday ™ of the season presented by Ink N Ivy. Fans 21 and over can enjoy $3 domestic drafts and all fans can enjoy $1 small sodas.
