The level of excitement has been high throughout the Midlands after former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow was announced as one of the newest members of the Columbia Fireflies.
"I think it'll be an interesting venture for him," said Aaron Sheppard of Lexington. "I'll definitely go to the ballpark now that I know that and check it out because, personally, I like Tebow as a person."
However, that level of excitement is shared by the former NFL star himself.
“I am excited about continuing the journey,” Tebow said in a statement. “I learned so much this spring working with T.C. (Terry Collins), Kevin Long, and Tom Goodwin. I hear so many good things about the City of Columbia. I hear the stadium is great; the people are great. I look forward to coming there to make an impact on the field and the community.”
The Fireflies have been looking forward to the start of their second season in Columbia. Now, that level of anticipation has increased.
"We've been really excited for a long time," said Fireflies executive vice president Brad Shank. "Obviously for this community, it's a great thing."
The Columbia Fireflies open their season at Spirit Communications Park on April 6 against Augusta GreenJackets.
