CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Three people and three dogs were able to escape a house fire that broke out at an east Charlotte home Friday morning.

The Charlotte Fire Department says family members are crediting their 3-year-old who woke them up to the fire on Seaforth Drive.

Firefighters reported heavy flames showing on social media just after 5:20 a.m. as they arrived on scene.

It took 28 firefighters around 20 minutes to control the fire.

Fire investigators are currently trying to pinpoint a cause of the fire.

The fire department also told WBTV a cat was found dead inside the home.
