The Carolina Panthers had a super busy Tuesday as they filled in their roster by re-signing a bunch of their potential free agents.
Seeing the likes of Charles Johnson, Brenton Bersin, Colin Jones, Michael Palardy, and Tyler Larsen inking new deals is NOT what most fans want to see. Some may even be in full panic mode at this point.
"Why are they spending money on these guys?"
"How did this team get better by signing the same guys?"
"Here we go with another terrible season!"
I know all of these statements and questions are running thru the minds of some of Keep Pounding Nation. I'm sure there are a bunch of other statements they are saying that I can't print.
But bottom line is, now is not the time to panic.
Last I checked, a NFL team is a roster of 53. You do have to sign some players folks.
You can't sign any other free agents on other teams until Thursday. You can only sign your own. So just relax.
The Panthers could still have at the least $20 million in salary cap space and I believe that is on the low end. It could be even more.
So just chill and wait until Thursday.
NOW, if nothing happens by Sunday or there is no chatter coming out about possible movement and all the good players are signing with other teams, then save me seat on the Panic Express because I'm climbing aboard.
Today was all about filling out the roster and creating competition.
Charles Johnson will be a part of a rotation at the defensive end spot.
Bersin will be in competition for the slot receiver position.
Jones is a special teams ace and this team as well as every NFL team needs players like Jones.
Palardy will be in competition with Andy Lee to get the punter spot.
Larsen is solid depth at the offensive line. He proved it late in the season with Ryan Kalil out.
Placing a 2nd round tender on Andrew Norwell was a MUST. Now you keep the solid core of the inside of that offensive line together with Norwell, Kalil and Pro Bowler Trai Turner.
So once again, I say, CHILL! Dave Gettleman got this.
At least, I hope he does.
