Inmate in custody after escaping, stealing government work truck

YORK COUNTY, SC (WBTV) -

An inmate is back in custody after investigators say he escaped custody and stole a York County work truck.

According to the York County Sheriff's Office, 43-year-old inmate Michael Eugene Davis escaped from the York County Vehicle Maintenance Shop on Justice Boulevard around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Investigators say he was driving a York County work truck. 

Davis was in the York County Prison SCDC custody and was serving time for a family court bench warrant and a charge for an unpaid traffic ticket.

Wednesday afternoon, York County Sheriff's deputies said Davis was taken into custody after he was found at a home in Lake Wylie.
