Gibbs and Aldridge Earn All-League Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – For the second straight season Jack Gibbs of the Davidson men’s basketball team has been selected first-team all-conference, while teammate Peyton Aldridge earned second-team recognition, as announced by the Atlantic 10 Tuesday.

In addition to ranking first and third in the A-10, averaging 22.0 and 20.6 points per game, respectively, Gibbs and Aldridge are the second highest scoring duo in the nation and have combined for 36 20-point outings and eight 30-point efforts this season.

Named to the A-10’s second-team as a sophomore, Gibbs is just three rebounds shy of becoming the first player in school history with 1,500 points, 400 rebounds and 400 assists. He is also fourth (65 out of 3rd) on Davidson’s all-time scoring list with 1,967 career points, just 33 away from becoming the fourth player (Curry, Gerdy, Hetzel) in school history with 2,000 career points.

The native of Westerville, Ohio, is also looking to become the first player to lead the league in scoring in back-to-back seasons since Temple’s Dionte Christmas (2006-09).

Aldridge, who leads the Wildcats in minutes played, rebounding, field-goal, 3-point and free-throw percentage, scored in double figures 26 times, while recording seven double-doubles.

Also a preseason all-conference selection, Aldridge ranks among league leaders in scoring (20.6/3rd), rebounding (8.1/4th), free-throw percentage (.837/6th), 3-point field-goal percentage (.419/4th), 3-pointers per game (2.2/7th) and minutes per game (36.6/4th).

Davidson (15-14) will open Atlantic 10 Tournament play Thursday with a 12 p.m. tip against La Salle (15-14) at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa.
