Man to be charged in connection to deadly SW Charlotte shooting

A 27-year-old man has been arrested after police say he was involved in a shooting in southwest Charlotte that left one person dead and two others injured.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, 27-year-old Robert Wilson Driver was arrested Monday after police say he was connected to the shooting.

The shooting happened February 24 around 10:10 p.m. near the intersection of Yorkdale Drive and Spring Creek Lane, which is in the Olde Whitehall neighborhood off of S. Tryon Street.

According to police, three people were taken to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries and 22-year-old Bryan Ja’Quan Thompson later died at the hospital.

CMPD said Driver was arrested Monday on an unrelated warrant and was taken to police headquarters. It was there he was also served with warrants related to the shooting.  

Investigators say Driver will be charged with murder, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
