Charlotte chef, Top Chef contestant arrested after being kicked out of Charleston bar

A popular Charlotte-based chef has been arrested after he was reportedly kicked out of a Charleston, SC bar and tried to get back in.

According to a Charleston Police Department report, officers saw Jamie Lynch swaying back and forth outside of a closed business around the intersection of Ann and King streets around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday night.

Lynch, 41, is the Executive Chef at Charlotte's popular 5Church restaurant and bar in uptown. He has also launched 5Church restaurants in Charleston and Atlanta. Lynch was also a contestant on the 14th season of Top Chef.

According to police, Lynch was seen arguing with security staff outside of AC's along King Street. He was reportedly trying to get back into the bar after he had been escorted out for being "too intoxicated."

When police tried to get Lynch away from the front of the bar, they said he had "difficulty walking in a straight line."

The entire encounter was recorded on an officer's body camera, according to the report,

Lynch was arrested for public intoxication and held at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center. According to jail records, he bonded out of jail Thursday afternoon.He is expected in court on the charges March 16.
