SARASOTA, FL (RNN) – Authorities stopped a Florida woman who was driving erratically and arrested her after a firefighter said she passed a bottle of methamphetamine to her 5-year-old daughter in a failed effort to hide it.
The Sarasota Sheriff’s Office said the bottle held 0.3 grams of methamphetamine and two cut straws.
At a little after 5 in the afternoon on Feb. 27, Delaney was behind the wheel of a Chevy Trailblazer, weaving in traffic and appearing to fall asleep at the wheel, according to the Bradenton Herald.
Witnesses reported that she tried to make a U-turn but stopped in the middle of the road, blocking traffic in both directions. She was drifting in and out of consciousness, talking to herself, and one witness told police the child was not buckled up in the backseat.
She was pulled over in the parking lot of a bank when a firefighter heard her tell the little girl to hold onto the bottle, according to the police report.
The child was turned over safely to relatives, the Sheriff’s Office reported. Delaney has been charged with drug possession and endangering a child, her second such charge. She's being held without bail.
