WEATHER: Light rainfall expected today, big changes arrive by week's end

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

If you like the 50s, soak up the next two days! Tuesday and Wednesday will both be variably cloudy. There will be a few spotty light rain showers around today with afternoon readings only getting back to about 50. Perhaps a bit more sunshine breaking through the clouds Wednesday with highs in the low to mid 50s - close to average for mid December.

By the end of the week, we are looking at BIG changes! Chilly temperatures will begin to spill in on Thursday when afternoon readings only climb to the mid 40s. Friday morning lows will start in the upper teens and despite plenty of sunshine, Friday looks to be the coldest day of the season when we likely won't make it above the mid 30s!

Here's one possible bump in the road. With cold air in place on Saturday morning, rain will be approaching. There is a small possibility of freezing rain first thing in the morning. It is still several days away, so we will be watching it all week. The good news is that highs on Saturday afternoon should reach the upper 40s. It won't feel warm but it will be warm enough to take care of any winter precipitation.  Rain will likely linger into Sunday as well, there maybe even thunderstorm in a few spots as afternoon readings Sunday climb well into the mild 60s!
