WINGATE, NC (WBTV) - It's the kind of scene you could never get tired of seeing; dozens of kids with eyes as wide as saucers roaming around a store with $150 to spend on whatever they may like.
Turns out, the cops that help them do the shopping don't get tired of it either.
"This is my third year doing it and it's always a lot of fun to come out and be with the community," Officer William Hackney from the Wingate Police Department said.
Hackney, along with dozens of other officers from various agencies in Union County, met up at 7:30 am at the Target in Weddington for several hours of shopping.
The Union County Christmas Bureau selected 45 kids to take part in the event this year.
The event is hosted by the Monroe Union Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 19.
Children are given an allotment of $75 for clothes and $75 for toys or whatever else they may want.
One young girl got several outfits along with a new pair of shoes. She also chose a wireless printer because she said the one her family had was broken.
The kids finished their shopping trip with a breakfast provided by Chick-fil-A.
