WEATHER: Cold front moves in, lows to drop to mid-20s by tomorrow morning

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Expect some clouds to start your Thursday, but only a stray sprinkle or mountain flurry at most. Otherwise bright skies and seasonal conditions return by afternoon with highs in the low 50s for most (30s in the mountains and 40s across the foothills).  Don't be fooled though, that will quickly be followed by a strong cold front tonight, and you will suddenly be waking up to Friday lows in the mid 20s!

This seriously cold air is here to stay through the weekend. After the cold Friday morning commute, afternoon highs won't make it out of the low 40s, our coldest since mid-February. The bottom falls out Friday night into Saturday morning, as some areas outside of Charlotte will drop to the upper teens for morning lows, yikes!

Saturday and Sunday afternoons will hold in the mid-upper 40s, but it's colder Saturday night versus Sunday night...20s vs. 30s. Throughout all this, the forecast stays dry, but the next chance of rain arrives on Monday. By that time, temperatures will be above freezing, so there'll be no threat of ice or snow.  The rain threat will probably linger into Tuesday, perhaps even Wednesday.
