SplenDishes: Creamy bacon & green bean casserole

Creamy Bacon & Green Bean Casserole

8 Bacon slices
4 tablespoons bacon fat (reserved from 8 slices of bacon)
4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
4 cups whole milk
1 teaspoon SplenDishes Bourbon Bacon Salt, plus more if needed
Pinch cracked black pepper
Pinch nutmeg
2 pounds frozen cut green beans, thawed
Crispy onions, for topping

Cook bacon until crispy and drain on paper towels. Once cooled, crumble and set aside.
Reserve bacon fat in pan (there should be about 4 tablespoons) and place heat on medium high. Whisk in flour and cook for 2-3 minutes, then whisk in milk. Continue whisking until mixture comes to a boil, if too thick, add more milk. Season with SplenDishes Bourbon Bacon Salt, a pinch of black pepper and a pinch of nutmeg. Taste and re-season with additional bacon salt.
Fold in green beans and ½ the crumbled bacon. Re-season if needed. Pour into 9" x 13" baking dish.
Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes. Then top with crispy onions and remaining crumbled bacon, and bake additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbling around the edges.
Serves 6-8.
