Air quality remains at unhealthy level in Charlotte area, cold front moves in for weekend

You've heard us talking about the strong front arriving this weekend bringing windy and colder conditions, but precious little rain. While all of that is true, the mountains appear to be in line for a light accumulation of snow Saturday night, perhaps an inch or so.

Ahead of that strong front, temperatures will climb back in to the 70s this afternoon, not far from record territory (78° set in 2013). The current Air Quality forecast for today keeps the Code Red conditions west of the Charlotte metro with Code Orange conditions for the city and surrounding areas once again.

On Saturday, those gusty winds around that front may temporarily mix out the smoke for us. However, it could cause the fires themselves to spread - possibly worsening the conditions in the long run.  Highs Saturday will step back down in to the 60s.

Plenty of sunshine will be around for the close of the weekend, but there will likely still be a chilly breeze to contend with Sunday with highs only in the 50s and lows at night dipping into the cold 20s.
