WEATHER: Highs to reach near 70, rain chances remain low

Here's a word rarely used in weather discussions around the Carolinas: Smog

The word 'Smog' evolved a long time ago from combining two words: Smoke and Fog

And once again, you may encounter some of that patchy smog as you make your way to work or school this morning.

And it is no laughing matter as the Air Quality Alert has been elevated to Code Red for today across the entire Piedmont counties of both North and South Carolina.  This indicates generally unhealthy air for the entire population.  You should limit your exposure to the outdoor air when possible.

As far as temperatures are concerned, we will get slightly warmer each day going forward. Highs will be near 70° today, inching up to the mid 70s by Friday. Sadly, there is no rain in sight this week.

By the weekend, a cold front will move through. That will bring our best chance for rain this week, a 20% chance on Saturday. It will also cause the winds to pick up in the afternoon through Sunday. A big cool down will come in after that. Highs on Sunday and into next week will be in the 50s with lows in the 20s again!
