CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

One person is being treated for injuries and two men are being sought by police after an employee was shot during a robbery at a Family Dollar in Charlotte.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, the robbery attempt happened at the Family Dollar on East Sugar Creek Road around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday. Officers said two men robbed the store at gunpoint.

Police said the employee was seriously injured in the shooting. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to recover.

Terrence Ponder waited outside the store after getting a frantic call from his daughter who was shopping inside with her two young children.

"She said there was an incident at the Family dollar. So I just rushed right over because I was in fear of safety for my grandkids and her,” he said.

One of the men involved is described as a black male in his late 40s to 50s, wearing a brown leather jacket and toboggan. The second man is described as a black male wearing a black hoodie and tan pants.

“It’s senseless. People should have more value of human life,” Ponder said.

Images of both men were captured on surveillance.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
