INDIAN TRAIL, NC (WBTV) -

Scooter Gordon, 6, of Indian Trail left this earth gently in his sleep on November 2, 2016.

Scooter was rescued from a horrible situation 2 years ago. His mother Jennifer Gordon says he was locked in a shed in a wire dog crate for years. "He was sickly, pale, anemic and full of parasites," Gordon said.

When rescued, Scooter was also mean. But that quickly changed when his new life began at the Carolina Waterfowl Rescue.

"When I reached in to get him he pecked my hand, but it was because he was near death from starvation," Gordon said.

Scooter got his first hug that day and he kept giving hugs, and even the occasional kiss, to everyone he met.

He became known as "the hugging rooster" and often posed for pictures with adoring fans.

For two years, Scooter lived a life full of love and kindness despite his tragic beginnings of early life.

Scooter leaves behind two loving hens who were his constant companions.

Donations may be made in Scooter's name at the Carolina Waterfowl Rescue.
