Police: Mom charged after infant killed due to meth exposure

CHAPIN, SC (WIS) -

A 36-year-old Chapin mother has been arrested and charged after her infant was killed due to methamphetamine exposure in utero, according to the Chapin Police Department.

Elizabeth Ashleigh Thompson has been charged with unlawful conduct toward a child. 

According to investigators, a toxicology report found the child had been exposed to meth while Thompson was carrying it.

Chapin Police and the Lexington County Sheriff's Department began investigating after the child was delivered stillborn at a Chapin residence.

Thompson remains in the Lexington County Detention Center on the charge.
