CATAWBA COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

Three teenagers in Caldwell County are facing charges after deputies say they stole political signs for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his running mate Governor Mike Pence.

According to local GOP officials, hundreds of political signs have gone missing in the past week.

Officers received an anonymous tip around noon that someone driving a silver Ford Focus was stopping and pulling up Trump/Pence political signs along Highway 321 in Caldwell County.

The vehicle was spotted in Valmead and was pulled over by deputies and the Lenoir Police Department.

Investigators say three teenagers, all students at Newton-Conover High School, were in the vehicle along with 12 purportedly stolen Trump campaign signs.

Seventeen-year-old Aurora Elizabeth Solis, 16-year-old Yamied Vasquez Rueda and 16-year-old Brandon Alonzo Castorena were each charged with stealing political signs and possession of stolen property. They were each to be released to the custody of their parents Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Catawba County Sheriff's Department says the trio admitted to taking signs "across the unifour" which includes Burke, Caldwell, Catawba and Alexander counties.

“We are here to enforce the law and protect the rights of all candidates,” says Sheriff Alan Jones of Caldwell County.

The investigation is continuing.
