CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Two people had to be taken to the hospital after they were injured in a crash Tuesday morning after robbery, carjacking suspects led police on a short pursuit. Three teens were charged in the incident.
According to police, the incident started around 8:12 a.m. along the 1300-block of Hunter Oaks Lane when a woman told police she was robbed at knife-point by several people.
That group then ran away from the scene, according to the woman.
Less than an hour later, officers were called to Dove Tree Lane after another woman said she was warming up her vehicle in the driveway when it was stolen.
Officers said they confirmed the same group of people, later identified as 16-year-old Ronald McQueen, a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old, were involved in both cases. The younger juveniles' names are not being released due to their ages.
A short time later, officers found the stolen vehicle and tried to pull it over.
"The suspects refused to stop the vehicle and a vehicle pursuit ensued on Milton Road towards The Plaza," police said. "Officers lost sight of the vehicle near The Plaza."
When officers got to the intersection in the 6000 block of The Plaza, they saw a three vehicle wreck - one of the vehicles was the stolen vehicle. Witnesses told officers the group from the stolen vehicle ran away from the crash.
Officers saw the group and after a short foot pursuit were able to take two people into custody. A third person was later located.
Two people from the wreck had to be taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
McQueen was taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and the juveniles were taken to a juvenile facility.
