LENOIR, NC (WBTV) - An investigation is underway in Lenoir after police say two men were found dead inside a home Wednesday afternoon.
According to police, the men, both 74 years old, were found around 4:04 p.m. Wednesday at a home along the 2400-block of SW Clearfield Place.
"For that to happen right there in this area is just mind blowing, especially somebody you know from a distance," neighbor Anthony Moody said.
Police said Gwyn Lee Kirby and Johnny Ben Church, both 74, were found dead inside the home where they both lived. Officials said the two men were cousins.
"The victims appear to have died from unnatural causes, and both victims have been sent for a medical autopsy," police said.
Police said neighbors don't have to worry about a killer on the loose.
"Right now we have no information and do not believe that this was a random event," Lenoir Police Captain Brent Phelps said. "We do believe that this was a specific event to the residence."
Lenoir police along with SBI agents are working the case. They have interviewed neighbors and collected evidence. They are waiting for the autopsy report before releasing more information.
"It's too early for us to tell," Phelps said. "We are not ruling anything out. We want to make sure we cover all the bases before we release that type of information."
Police said the community is not known for trouble, which is why neighbors are surprised crime tape was found on their street.
"That blew me away," Moody said. "Because the neighborhood itself we don't have that problem around here. It's just that quiet."
Police said they will release more information about the case Friday.
