CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Record Broken or Broken Record? Bit of both....
Let's face it, this has been a warmer than average summer and by and large it's continued through the fall.
Thursday's high of 89° broke a 78 year old record of 87° set in 1938. Today's forecast high of 86° would tie a 90 year old record of set in 1926. When you consider an 'average' day this time of year sees most of the day in the 60s, that's some impressive heat!
After today, things do start to change, and in a rather dramatic way.
Our best chance for rain will come on Friday. There's a 40% chance as a stout cold front moves through. The combination of cooler air and limited sunshine on Friday will already jam the temperatures down to near 70°. By Saturday, highs will continue to plummet into the low 60s, while some surrounding areas could see Sunday lows in the upper 30s!
After that, we will hover close to average for Sunday and next week, with afternoon readings recovering to near 70° most days.
