CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Two suspects have been charged in an officer-involved shooting that happened early Wednesday morning outside a south Charlotte hotel.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say officer Francine Delano was responding to an assault call in the Days Inn parking lot on E. Woodlawn Road around 1:40 a.m. A witness called police to report seeing a robbery in the alley.

Police say during the robbery, 31-year-old Alonzo Edwin Castro pulled out a gun and attempted to rob the victim. Police say as the victim was leaving, the second suspect, 38-year-old Isidro Albarran, fired several shots.

Delano heard the gunshots and pulled up to the scene when she says she saw the two suspects in the alley.

"Officer Delano perceived an imminent threat and fired her service weapon striking Castro in the leg," CMPD said.

Medic took Castro to Carolinas Medical Center with minor injuries. After being released by medical staff, Castro was taken to police headquarters.

Witnesses said at least six shots were fired before police arrived.

Castro was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Albarran was charged with discharging a firearm within city limits. He voluntarily went to police headquarters and spoke with detectives.

Delano has been placed on administrative leave, per standard protocol, and the Internal Affairs Bureau is conducting a separate investigation.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call detectives at 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-336-1600.
